Grind for espresso

  • Best: order NO (whole bean) and grind fresh with a burr grinder just before each shot. Espresso is the most grind-sensitive way to brew.
  • Pre-ground: choose YES (FINE GRIND). It suits home machines with a pressurised (double-wall) basket and moka pots.
  • Starting recipe: about 18 g of coffee in, about 36 g of espresso out, in 25–30 seconds. Grind finer if it runs fast and sour, coarser if it runs slow and bitter.

Frequently asked questions

What are the best coffee beans for espresso?

For milk drinks, our Arabica-Robusta Blend gives the most body and crema. CB’s Finest Signature Blend is a smoother everyday espresso, and Batangas Robusta gives the strongest, most chocolatey shot.

Is Robusta good for espresso?

Yes. Robusta adds body, thick crema and about twice the caffeine of Arabica, which is why many Italian and Filipino espresso blends include it. Straight Robusta makes a strong, bold shot that works best with milk. Learn more

What grind should I choose for espresso?

Whole bean ground fresh with a burr grinder gives the best espresso. If you want us to grind it, choose YES (FINE GRIND), which suits machines with a pressurised basket and moka pots.

How much are espresso beans in the Philippines?

Our espresso beans cost ₱231–₱274 for a 200 g bag and ₱813–₱991 per kilo, roasted daily in Manila. Wholesale 10 kg boxes are cheaper per kilo. Learn more

Can I use espresso beans for other brewers?

Yes. Espresso beans are just coffee roasted to suit espresso. They also work well in a moka pot, French press or drip machine; only the grind changes.
